Precautions When Caring For Wigs

Proper wig care is very important to extend the life of your wig. Wig care is different from natural hair care, even though the wig itself is made of human hair! The internet is full of conflicting wig care advice. Many common techniques, such as using fabric conditioners to reduce the unnatural shine of synthetic wigs, despite their popularity, can actually damage your wig if you're not careful.

Please don't do the things I listed

1.Don't treat artificial wigs and synthetic wigs equally.
Different types of wigs require different types of care. Therefore, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to treat all wigs equally and care for them. Synthetic hair is less heat resistant and more prone to tangling, although each wig is different. Always follow the wig's specific care instructions above all else.

Although each wig has its own unique properties, it is possible to outline the general rules that differentiate human and synthetic hair in terms of activities such as washing. Please see our blog for detailed advice on how to wash human hair wigs and how to wash fiber wigs, and to ensure that the wig care products you purchase are appropriate for your wig type.

It is absolutely crucial to buy the right care products for your wig, because failure to do so will cause irreparable damage, and the wrong care products will greatly reduce its lifespan.

2.Avoid using regular hairspray on wigs
Excessive use of hairspray on wigs is an absolute no-no, as it greatly increases the likelihood of tangling, grease buildup, and generally makes it more difficult to set the wig. If you must spray your wig, stick with a spray/shine product that is specifically approved for wigs and limit the amount you use.

Alternatively, follow the styling instructions of a professional and use a wig gel spray to hold your hair in place, or consult your hairdresser or wig consultant for advice on how to design.

3.Do not heat on the wig
Heat is one of the most detrimental factors to the life of the wig, try to reduce the number of times the wig is heated. When you need to heat a wig it is best to consult your stylist, if you want to know some of the styles that can be done without heating the wig you can follow our blog.

4.Don't wear a wig to bed
Sleeping in a wig means you're likely to wake up full of knots and tangles, giving you an extra (and bigger) task the next day! Sleeping with a wig can damage your natural hair.

5.Don't wear a wig bath or swim
Except when cleaning wigs, in other times inside please try not to let wigs and water contact. Do not wear a wig in the shower, do not wear a wig swimming, do not wear a wig walking in the rain.

6.Don't neglect your own hair.
While you must take the time and effort to care for your wig, it is equally important to maintain your own hair. If you suffer from partial hair loss, be sure to care for your natural hair regularly to improve cleanliness and comfort.

7.Don't cut your own wig
While wig maintenance is different from natural hair maintenance, one thing remains consistent; unless you are a professional, do not attempt to cut your own wig! This is especially true considering the different nature and texture of wigs. Instead, take your wig to a barbershop. There are many salons and stylists that specialize in wig care; ask around and find one in your area. You'll thank us later!
